Lee Bomhoff's Biography

LEE BOMHOFF is an artist well known throughout America for his striking images of the human form. His unique style combines the soft light of the impressionists with a contemporary sense of color.

Born, Burton Lee Bomhoff in 1958, Lee studied at the University of Florida, the Pratt Institute in New York, and went on to study at the Atlanta College of Art where he discovered his unique gift for rendering the human figure.

He traveled extensively through Italy where he experienced the rich artworks of the Renaissance period. On trips to Rome and Florence, he was able to study firsthand the figures of Michelangelo and Titian. Their use of natural light with the human form powerfully impacted Lee's own work.

By 1992, over 150 collectors from the U.S. and abroad had acquired works by this exceptional artist, and since then many more people have acquired and fallen in love with Lee's work.

His works are in the collections of several museums and have been exhibited in galleries across America. Lee has had major exhibitions in Atlanta, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Hawaii, Florida and New York.

By 1997 Lee had been portrayed along with his works in the movies as well. But later that year, Lee suffered a sudden and unexpected medical condition which led to his untimely death at the age of only 39. His friends, colleagues, and patrons were devastated. But fortunately Lee will not be forgotten, as he leaves behind an amazing legacy of works that will put a smile on the face of everyone who ever knew Lee.
